The St Augustine Medical Laboratory has received a certificate of accreditation based on ISO 15189 by Quality Management Programme-Laboratory Services (QMP-LS) of Canada.

Dr Bal Ramsaran, Medical Laboratory Director, says this status is a tremendous achievement for the lab.

"We are the first in the Caribbean to attempt this and the first to be accredited."
"Although we are smaller in volume, we are ranked with major laboratories throughout the world. We are now accredited for over 100 tests for a five-year period."

Dr Ramsaran says it took the institute several years to become accredited.

"We decided that we must set the standard in health for others to follow."
